Panna

The Italian word for cream. We import the ultimate version from a producer in Piemonte, so that we can top every scoop and sundae with this gelateria staple - a pillowy dollop of lightly sweetened, freshly whipped cream.

Inspired by the Italian gelato tradition and founded by lifelong ice cream lover Hallie Meyer, we’re known for the exceptional quality of ingredients we use and our inventive flavor combinations. Our ever-changing menu of ice cream churned in-house and sundaes that change daily highlight the best local producers, ingredients from the neighboring Union Square Greenmarket and some of our favorite specialty ingredients imported from Italy - whether its pistachios and olive oil from Sicily, or our signature panna from Piemonte.

Our Shop

Located at the corner of Irving Place and 19th Street in Manhattan, Caffè Panna is open Wednesday through Sunday for ice cream and coffee. Our shop menu features our seven classic flavors plus five scoops that rotate weekly, two sundaes showcasing what’s inspiring us at the moment and a selection of daily pints. Our Flavors

At our shop, we offer to-go pints of our six classic flavors plus seasonal flavors that rotate weekly. Special flavors are all produced fresh and offered in a limited quantity.

Ice cream pints can be ordered when you visit our Gramercy shop or ordered online for in-store pick-up and delivery to adjacent Manhattan neighborhoods (returning in February!). We ship nationwide via Goldbelly and in summer months, we deliver weekly to the Hamptons. You can also find special pints at a select few specialty stores and restaurants in NYC.

Besides our classic flavors, ice cream flavors for scoops and pints change daily, along with our special sundaes and affogato sundaes. We always offer our seven classic scoop flavors, plus a variety of affogatos (ice cream drowned in espresso, topped with freshly whipped panna).

Hallie Meyer

Raised in the Gramercy neighborhood that Caffe Panna calls home, Hallie is a lifelong ice cream fanatic who has cooked in Southern Italy, at the Rome Sustainable Food Project, and in the beloved Roman gelateria, Otaleg. While living in Rome, Meyer was inspired by the cafes and gelaterias which are a ubiquitous part of daily life in the eternal city.

Upon her return to New York, Hallie first started selling her ice cream at a popup in the South Bronx called Tripla Panna before turning her sights to opening Caffè Panna. After quickly establishing Caffè Panna as some of the country’s best ice cream, she also hosts regular pasta pop-ups called Trattoria Panna.

  • You can visit us at Caffè Panna Wednesday-Sunday 1:30-9:30pm for freshly spun scoops, pints, affogatos, sundaes, and coffee. You can also order online for pickup or delivery in NYC. We look forward to serving you!

  • Online ordering for our daily changing fresh pint selection is live! We change our flavors daily, so be sure to check often. Ordering opens at 1:30pm, just like the shop. You can order for pickup AND delivery to nearby Manhattan addresses.

  • We do not sell ice cream cakes right now. Grab a bunch of pints and a few sides of panna and pints of crunch and make a party out of that!

  • We do! Check out goldbelly.com and search for us there. We rotate our 6-pack of pints every 5 weeks. That way, our nationwide Panna family can enjoy the fun of changing flavors just like our NYC neighbors!

  • Panna is the Italian word for ‘cream’, and we import our cream straight from Piedmonte and whip it freshly in house daily. Hallie was obsessed with this particular brand of panna that was served at handful of gelaterias in Rome. It took some work, but now we import this special Italian cream by the shipload so Panna fans get that perfect dollop of freshly-whipped goodness on top of their scoops every time.

  • We make a killer chocolate sorbet that is purely Amano chocolate, cocoa, water, and sugar. We also feature regular seasonal fruit sorbets. No plant milk bases here, though.

  • For sure! Believe it or not, all ice cream in the US must be made with a pasteurized base mix in order to be legally sold:)

  • Most of our ice creams are dairy only, and do not contain eggs. If an ice cream does contain eggs, we will list it with an (e) to let you know. And while we’re on the topic of allergens: if it contains nuts, you’ll see a (n) and if it contains gluten, a (g).
